Greg Stanfield DBP Enterprises S-10 Pro Stock Truck

Pomona, Sunday: Greg Stanfield, driver of the DBP Enterprises Chevrolet S-10, has made it to the final twice this year, both times he left the final without turning on the win light. However today would be a different story for Stanfield. He will leave today 15th Annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals with his first Pro Stock Truck win.

"I can't believe it," said Stanfield. "I really can't believe it because I broke the line-lock in the burn out. I should have red lit, but I just kind of held on and prayed. Being able to pull this off with no line lock, I know for sure the man upstairs said it was my day, because by all rights I should have lost.

"We have run good all weekend. After the second round of qualifying we knew what we needed to do to get down the track. The truck ran perfect.

"Mentally I have been a little off. I have had a hard time getting past the first round in the last part of the season. This weekend my guys took care of the truck so that all had to do was concentrate on driving. They kept me pumped up, and it seemed to help. My lights and the truck were very consistent. When the line-lock broke that should have ended my day, but I guess I finally got some of that racing luck I have been looking for all season. And it couldn't have come at a better time.

"I finally turned on the win light, but it didn't come without a lot of blood, sweet and tears. I didn't want to let my team down today. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for a bunch of people. My crew: Farron Wooley, my brother Mike, and my Dad. Bart and Donna Price, they own the team and I'm just lucky that they let me drive their truck.

"This is a good way to end the season, but we are not done working. We are going to go home and go back to work and get ready for next season. This win will really pump us up for next year. We will be back here for the Winternationals and hopefully we can do it again."

Pomona, Saturday Greg Stanfield, driver of the DBP Enterprises Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Truck, will enter tomorrows eliminations at the 15th Annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals holding the number 3 spot on the eliminations ladder.

In the third session of qualifying Stanfield drove is S-10 to a 7.508 / 180.09 mph to take the number three slot. When eliminations get under way at the Pomona Raceway Stanfield will meet Charlie Greco in Round 1.

"I am going to take it one round at a time tomorrow," said Stanfield of Bossier City, La. "Tomorrow is going to be a drivers race. The race will be won on reaction time and consistency.

"I definitely have been working on my reaction times lately. Earlier in the season when we were down on performance, I kind of let my lights go. But now that our performance is back where it should be, I am concentrating on my driving.

"Tomorrow lane choice is not going to be a factor, it is going to be the guy in the other lane. You can't over look anyone in this class, so I am going to take it one round at a time. Make the best run I can make, and not beat myself. If I do that we could possibly see the winner's circle tomorrow night."

Owner/driver Bart Price was not as successful as his teammate Stanfield. In the third round of qualifying Price got out of shape and did not improve on his performance from the previous sessions.

Rain in the late afternoon forced NHRA officials to cancel the last session of qualifying. Without his the last qualifying round Price found himself in the 18th position, and on the outside looking in.

"We had a bad lap in the last session," said Price. "I got out of shape and could not recover. I think if we had got that last session in, I would have probably put my truck in the top half of the field. Everyone has a bad run from time to time. I had a bad run at the wrong time."
