Krisher just misses top spot

Indianapolis, Saturday: Ron Krisher is the No. 2 qualifier at 6.889, 199.97 mph.

"Doggone it, we were trying to sneak past Warren (Johnson) there. But we've been consistent all weekend and we're definitely gaining on this thing. We're still struggling with our 60-foot time a little bit, but if we get that figured out we can get back to the pole. This makes us feel real good, especially since we decided to do this thing on our own. We've had the best outing we've had all year so far, so we're not feeling too bad about all us dummies over here. And the track's beautiful - probably the best track we've run on all year."

Krisher needs one more round win this year

Indianapolis, pre-race: Ron Krisher, a runner-up in last year's U.S. Nationals in Pro Stock in his Eagle One Chevrolet Cavalier, is currently seventh in points with one win. His latest final round appearance came at the most recent race at Brainerd, Minn.

Krisher tested at IRP Aug. 22-23, driving a Pro Stock best lap of 6.893 seconds, 200.53 mph.

"The track is awesome," he said. "It is the best racetrack we've been on all year. I think it is fantastic. The track was over 130 degrees and we were able to run well. I don't think the track is fast enough to hold a national record because the air never gets good enough here. The track is certainly record quality but we'll need some really cool weather to see a record run. Even if the humidity is down, and the temperature is down, it would be tough to do it because the barometer needs to be really low for record conditions."

Krisher lost last year's U.S. Nationals to Jeg Coughlin. "Just knowing that we can do it is good," Krisher said. "I was disappointed. Real disappointed. Real, real disappointed. I had a decent light and he had just an awesome light. But I've been noting with these new cars, guys haven't been cutting those lights any more. The cars don't move. They ran those Oldsmobiles for five years and they had them so they'd react. The reaction times are not there with these new cars and it shows."
