Stanfield beats Price, then reaches semi's

St. Louis, Sunday: Greg Stanfield and Bart Price, drivers of the DBP Enterprises Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Trucks, entered eliminations at the 5th annual Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals holding the third and 14th spots and faced each other in the first round.

For the second time this year, Stanfield and Price squared off. The outcome was the same: Stanfield took the win over Price. Stanfield ran a 7.548 at 180.09 mph to Price's 7.633 at 177.65 mph.

In Round 2, Stanfield defeated John Lingenfelter. Stanfield ran a 7.534 at 180.12 mph to Lingenfelter's 7.562 at 178.59 mph.

Stanfield's day would end in the semifinals when Randy Daniels defeated him. Daniels ran a 7.532 at 179.76 mph to Stanfield's 7.550 at 179.85 mph.

"I'm just glad to have these hot-weather races behind us," said Stanfield. "We have really struggled at the last couple races. I am glad to have them over.

"We are going to go back home now and get ready for Indy. We have a list of thing we are going to work on, and I think it is longer than the time we have off.

"We want to ready for Indy, and to do that it is going to take a lot of work. So we are going back to work tomorrow. See you in Indy."

Team DBP drivers will race each other

St. Louis, Saturday: Today at the Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals, Team DBP drivers Greg Stanfield and Bart Price placed their trucks in the third and 14th spots on the Pro Stock Truck eliminations ladder.

In the second session of qualifying, Stanfield ran a 7.475 at 180.05 mph to secure the third position. In the same session, Price ran a 7.518 at 178.80 mph to grab the 14th spot.

This is both a blessing and a curse for Team DBP. A blessing, since both trucks have qualified for Sunday's race; a curse in that they race each other in Round 1.

"It is a pretty tough deal when you have to race your boss in the first round," said Stanfield. "But I guess you will have that from time to time when you have a two-truck team.

"Naturally, I would have liked to have someone else in the first round. We decided a long time ago that when this kind of thing happens, we would race each other just like we race anyone else. So that is what we are going to do tomorrow: race."

Team owner Bart Price concurred: "When Greg and I first put this two-truck team together, we knew this might happen. We decide, then and there, that in this situation we would race. We are both racers, and neither on of us likes to lose. So, there was never any question about one of us taking the fall for the other. It is out of the question. We race to win. Period."
