Krisher powers to No. 3 spot
Pomona, Saturday: Ron Krisher, Eagle One Pontiac Firebird, is the No. 3 qualifier - 6.858/200.80 mph.
"I feel real good about tomorrow if we drive okay. We got this Pontiac pretty well under control. There are two or three cars that if we all make it to the end it'll be interesting to say the least. We could've run a lot better yesterday, but we missed a little bit on both runs yesterday. We went out today and got a lot closer and we've got some power, so we'll see tomorrow."
Krisher cruising, even in his "old" car
Pomona, pre-race: Ron Krisher, No. 4 in Pro Stock points last season with two victories, will drive his "old" Eagle One Pontiac Firebird at the 41st annual AutoZone Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. Krisher's 2001-model Eagle One Chevrolet Cavalier isn't ready, forcing him into last year's car.
Krisher got off to a "spectacular" start at this race a year ago, when he lost control and flipped in first-round eliminations. He's also been a force in his "old" car, racing to the semifinals of last weekend's Pontiac Excitement Pro Stock Super Bowl in Houston. While there, Krisher posted the fastest lap of the day (201.01 mph) and was the quickest car during several sessions.
"I made a mistake in the semis," Krisher said. "I wanted to break in some new tires and we figured it was going to rain on Sunday and that we were running out of time so I put a brand new set on before the round. I blew the tires right off the second I dumped the clutch. Something like that would never have happened at a national event.
"We're excited about getting the Cavaliers. If we're this fast and quick in this old clunker we'll be flying like a rocketship in the new car."
Krisher will be joined by crew chief Mike Edwards on the racetrack this year. He'll be driving the team's second car.
